Kathy's door

I see a lot of sadness here sometimes. Things that break my heart and make me want to cry; extreme poverty, hunger, death, abuse, suffering, injustice. Some days are harder than others. While I never want to close my eyes or forget the things that make me sad I must have faith that things will get better. If I wallow too much in the sadness I am going to drown. People need hope to survive which brings me to the door of Kathy’s office. Kathy has several magnetic letters on her door. We like to spell out different things with the letters. Whenever kids are here they like to spell out their names or make up words and ask us to pronounce them. Doing this is something that brings us a little happiness in the midst of all the sorrow in the world. Several weeks ago I was in Kathy’s office chatting with her and we decided to spell out several happy, positive words on her door. This is what we came up with...

Kathy's door

Friend, Family

Faith, Light, Love

Courage, Jesus

Peace

Iowa, Hug, Berlin, Success

Hope is putting faith to work when doubting would be easier

Alisha ... that is a beautiful blog. Sad - but somehow uplifting.

I'm glad I get to stare at my door - sometimes one of the words will jump out at me when I most need it.

Love you

I'm glad there are things you can do to cheer you up when you need it. I'm sure sometimes it is very difficult.
